Invert PDF colors for a dark reading copy
Inverting turns white pages black and black text white, so the file stays dark in any reader, even one without a dark mode. Photos invert as well, so they look like negatives. That is fine for text-heavy papers and less so for picture books.
Change PDF color and brightness
Skip the invert and adjust brightness, contrast and saturation instead, for example to lift a faded scan. Every page is rendered to an image at the DPI you choose, so the text is no longer selectable in the output. Keep the original if you need to copy or search text.
