How the PDF to PDF/A conversion works
Every page is rendered to an image at the resolution you choose, then rebuilt into a new file. That file gets an embedded sRGB color profile, PDF/A metadata and a document ID.
Pick 150 DPI for a lighter file, or 300 DPI when small print must stay sharp.
Know the trade-offs before you convert
Pages become images, so the text is no longer selectable or searchable. Keep the original if you need to copy text later, or run OCR PDF on your own copy.
The output is not validated by a certified checker. If an archive or court requires validation, check the file with their validator. Large scans at 300 DPI get heavy, and Compress PDF can help on other copies.
